Applying the Law of Attraction Part 1

If the Law of Attraction is a new concept for you, I encourage you to read my first blog post on this topic “So What is the Law of Attraction?”

Now understanding that whatever energy and focus we give our attention to, will be matched by the Law of Attraction, how can we train ourselves, and more importantly train our brains, to stay in a positive place and focus on attracting more of what we want into our lives?

Firstly, we need to clarify what we DO want. Sometimes, when we’ve been in a negative place for some time, whether it’s a toxic work environment, challenging relationship, unhealthy eating patterns, concerns about money or any other place of negativity, it can be hard to switch to think in positive terms. It’s easy to get trapped in a cycle of complaining, rumination or listening to our inner critic (we all have one) and that simply results in more negativity.

One of the techniques I use in my coaching practice when helping someone get un-stuck when they’re in a negative place, is to let them unpack all the things about their current situation, or their thoughts and feelings, that they don’t like. We list them on the left-hand side of the page under the title “What I Don’t Want”. Then on the right-hand side of the page under the title “What I Want Instead” we list the opposite of what they don’t want, and this helps us uncover what they DO want.

Here's a few examples

At work what I don’t want is a boss who takes all the credit for work I’ve completed

What I DO want is a boss who appreciates me and recognises my contributions.

In my relationships what I don’t want is a partner who always puts their needs ahead of mine

What I DO want is a partner who cares about me and is sensitive to my wants and needs

In my relationship with food what I don’t want is to eat lots of junk food or take-out every night

What I DO want is to focus on giving my body the type of food it needs to be fit, healthy and energised

You can see how once you’ve declared what you don’t want, it’s relatively easy to define what you DO want.

I invite you to use this technique to make your own list of things in your life that you’d like to change. Pay attention to what you DO want and any time your thoughts go to what you don’t want, notice, but don’t dwell on the negatives, instead, simply redirect those thoughts to what you know you DO want to attract into your life.

For the Law of Attraction to work, you need to give your desires more attention. When you do that, you’ll be creating more positive energy or vibrations in what Michael Losier (*), best-selling author and expert on the Law of Attraction, calls your vibrational bubble.

Michael suggests creating a Desire Statement. He recommends the following format:

Opening Sentence:

“I am in the process of attracting all that I need to do, know or have, to attract my ideal desire”

Desire Statement (pick a statement that feels good to you):

“I love knowing that my ideal…”

“I love how it feels when…”

“I’ve decided…”

“More and more…”

“It excites me…”

“I love the idea of…”

“I’m excited at the thought of…”

“I love seeing myself…”

Closing Sentence:

“The Law of Attraction is unfolding and orchestrating all that needs to happen to bring me my desire.”

By using these types of statements, rather than an affirmation such as "I have a partner who who cares about me and is sensitive to my wants and needs" which may leave you with negative feelings if what you’re saying isn’t really true, you'll feel that the desire statements is be true and can be included in your vibrational bubble in a positive way.
