So What Is The Law Of Attraction?
Jan 28, 2024Most people have heard of the Law of Attraction. In case this concept is new to you, here’s a simple summary.
We attract into our life what we give our attention, energy and focus to. Sounds too simple to be true, doesn’t it? If our energy and focus is on negative thoughts, we’ll attract things we don’t want. Likewise, if we focus our energy on positive thoughts, we’ll attract more positive things.
Whether you believe this or not, your energy, or “vibe” as Michael Losier, a respected author on this topic calls it, will be matched by the Law of Attraction.
Perhaps we start the day and something goes wrong, maybe we have an important meeting which we’re a little anxious about and then we spill our morning tea or coffee on our shirt and we say “why did this have to happen to me today of all days?” You’re starting the day on a negative vibe and unless you consciously switch your vibe to a more positive one, it’s likely that more things you don’t want will happen throughout the day, including how well the meeting goes.
Another day, we might open a thank you note from a dear friend telling us how much they appreciate our friendship and the difference we make in their lives. We’re starting off the day on a positive vibe and if we stay on that track, more good things are likely to come our way. This is why starting the day with a gratitude practice can be so powerful.
The words running through our heads, lead to thoughts which ultimately result in feelings which impact the vibe we’re projecting into the world.
So, if the Law of Attraction is impacting our lives, whether we’re aware of this or not, what can we do to attract more of what we want? The answer is to get clear on what we do want and focus our internal talk, thoughts and feelings on those things.
If you focus on what you don’t want, you’re unconsciously attracting that very thing into your life. If you say “I don’t want this conversation to be awkward” it’s likely to be awkward. If you notice you’re having a negative thought, it’s important to change our internal talk to what we do want, perhaps by saying something like this “This meeting is going to be comfortable and productive”. If you can do this, you’re more likely to have a positive experience and outcome from the meeting.
One of the challenges we all have is that our brains are wired to keep us safe and be aware of dangers. This means that it’s far easier to focus on negative thoughts than positive ones, unless we become more aware and consciously re-direct our thoughts.
How to Redirect Your Thoughts
One way Michael Losier suggests you experience more positivity is to banish certain words from your vocabulary. Can you guess what they are? They’re “don’t” “not” and “no”. He explains that when we use these words in common phrases like “No problem” “Don’t worry” “I’m not judging”, you are giving attention to the idea that there might be a problem, or the possibility that someone will worry, or that you might be being judgmental and the Law of Attraction will focus on that.
Michaels’ simple solution is something I use in my coaching practice to help people who are stuck in a negative space. He says that when you’re about to make a negative statement like “don’t panic” ask “So what do I want?” and then turn it into a positive statement like “stay calm”.
Can you notice and feel the difference between the two statements "don't panic" and "stay calm"?
I encourage you to be open to the possibility that the Law of Attraction is always actively responding to the energy, or vibes, you’re giving off, whether you believe it or not.
In future blogs I’ll share more about how we can take full advantage of all that the Law of Attraction can do for us.
