How Can I Get My Parents to Make a Plan?

If you are a mid-lifer or better with elderly parents who just don’t want to talk about, or make any kind of plan for their future, come and release your frustration as you join Sue Maitland Life Transitions coach and share your experiences over a glass of wine and appies. At 5:45pm Sue will deliver a thought provoking and interactive information session with ideas for how best to approach this sensitive topic. Afterwards you can stay and mingle over a delicious dessert with all food and wine generously provided by Ross Place Retirement Residence.

Sue Maitland writes for Senior Living magazine and she’s passionate about empowering seniors by encouraging them to make a plan. She also knows that change is hard for most people and seniors in particular often prefer not to think about the future even though they know that as they age, it’s inevitable that they will begin to need additional support from family, friends or professional caregivers. Raising this topic can cause tremendous family tension and Sue will provide you with some insights into what the seniors are feeling and ideas for how best to approach this sensitive topic with the seniors in your life.

Attendance is limited for this FREE event, so please register early by calling Sue Maitland at 778-265-6880 and please be sure to provide the name and phone number of any friends or relatives who would like to join you.

What’s Important to Me NOW? Workshop

In this powerful 2 hour workshop participants will take the time to ask the question “What are the things in my life that are really important to me right now and what things do I want to give more focus to in the future?” Many of us lead very busy lives juggling personal, work and family commitments and we rarely stop to evaluate whether we’re spending our time on activities that really reflect who we are and what’s important to us as individuals. Others feel stuck in familiar patterns of behaviour that really don’t inspire or fulfill us. If you feel you may be approaching a crossroads in your life, investing a couple of hours with a life coach to help you get clear on your personal priorities can have a profound effect on the rest of your life.

Image knowing exactly what your priorities are and being able to evaluate each new demand for your time or attention in the light of whether this supports what’s most important to you. As you move forward after this workshop and begin to make choices aligned to what’s most important to you, you will begin to feel a powerful sense of control, satisfaction and happiness in the new life you are creating for yourself.

This foundational workshop is a great reference point to begin one-on-one coaching and is pre-requisite for future workshops which may focus on such things as:
• helping mid-lifers and up plan a future move
• understanding what an ideal retirement could look like for you
• building friendships and a social life that supports who you are and what you enjoy after divorce or the passing of a loved one

All the Right Moves for Seniors Part 2 of 2

If you’re a senior who knows that you’ll probably need to move sometime in the near future because your current home is no longer ideal for you at this stage of your life and you’ve been putting off thinking about it, this two part workshop could be ideal for you.

In two separate two hour sessions, seniors will first discover their own personal “most important things” at this stage of their lives and then explore where might be the best type of environment to call home to support those things. You’ll leave with a checklist of “MUST Have” and “NICE to Have” features that will help you to narrow down your search to the ideal next home for you BEFORE you decide to make your move.

By being pro-active, you’ll have the chance to research all the options and will avoid the risk of something happening unexpectedly and having that decision made for you by someone else who may not know what’s ideal for you.

Sue Maitland, a professional Life Transitions Coach has helped mid-lifers and seniors (some in their 90’s) get clear on what would be the ideal next home for them.

The workshop takes place on two separate Wednesdays:
Part 1 Wednesday Feb 26th, 2014 2pm to 4pm
Part 2 Wednesday Mar 12th, 2014 2pm to 4pm

Participants will obtain greatest value from the session if they do some research into different potential types of accommodation during the 2 weeks between workshops 1 and 2. To support you in doing this, your instructor has made arrangements with a local realtor who is able to show you some 55+ options in Victoria that you may wish to explore. Your research will help you to drive out your personal checklist and bring clarity on the next best home for you.

The total cost for this workshop (Parts 1 & 2) is $300 per person and includes complimentary tea and cookies, courtesy of The Kensington.

Please note that this workshop is ideal for seniors who are living on their own. If you are a couple, I would strongly recommend you invite me to work with you one-on-one and would be happy to explain why of you give me a call at 778-265-6880.

Please call Sue at 778-265-6880 to register and please ask how if you own a property that you plan to sell, your fees for this workshop series may be reimbursable.
