Mini Self-Care Retreat

spa shotIf you’re a busy professional woman, give yourself permission to take an evening off and discover why practicing self-care is so important for you AND everyone else in your life. Learn why so many women don’t make taking care of themselves a priority and the impact this has on themselves and others.

Experience a 90 minute self-care workshop where you’ll take time to appreciate some of the qualities that make you special and leave with a plan to integrate more self-care into your life.

There will be some sharing, though this is purely optional. The key focus of this seminar is to create a space for you to do some thinking about what practicing more self-care could look like for you.

At 7:00 pm we’ll all retire to a special table set aside just for us, at the Union Club for a delicious buffet supper that is included in the seminar price of only $77. Enjoying supper together will provide a wonderful opportunity to connect and get to know each other better.

The overwhelming feedback from participants of the Commit to Self-Care and Be Your BEST Self Workshop is that they would recommend it to others and here’s what one participant had to say afterwards:

“The Commit to Self-Care Seminar was inspirational and I really enjoyed it. I loved the setting at the Union Club and the meal with the other participants was delicious and the perfect way to wrap up the evening”                                  Janet Duncan, Professional Hairstylist, Ginger Group

Spaces are very limited for this event, so please contact Sue at 778-265-6880 or email her at suemaitland@shaw.ca to reserve your seat as soon as you know you’d like to attend. Consider inviting a friend to join you, or come on your own and expand your network.

Attend this workshop and receive special pricing on a Personal Discovery Package or the online What’s Important to Me NOW? workshop. You’ll also receive some additional surprise gifts from other businesses that Sue knows and trusts valued in the hundreds of $’s. This offer may not be combined with any other offers. Payment is required in advance and we accept US and Canadian cash and all major credit cards.

Are you REALLY ready to retire?

Victoria Waterfront Mar 2016-0863-Edit (2)It’s a BIG decision with lots of implications both financially and personally. I know because as a life and career transitions coach I’ve helped many clients answer this question and in this blog post I’m going to share my top tips for a successful retirement.

Some of my clients had already retired and weren’t sure they’d made the right choice. Others felt ready and just needed that final clarity on exactly what their retirement would look like before taking the leap. I’ve watched others attempt to retire and return to work because their retirement funds aren’t sufficient to support the retirement lifestyle they desire and others who simply miss the social interaction and sense of purpose that comes from working.

There are some key components to enjoying a successful retirement and it’s not all about the money.

Sue’s Tips for a Successful Retirement

  1. Take time to pause and connect with your values, your natural strengths and abilities and what fulfills you – do this and you have a solid foundation upon which to start to create a retirement you’ll love. Fail to do this and you’ll find many people willing to help you fill your days with commitments and activities you’d really rather not be doing.
  2. Get clear on your priorities for this phase of your life – who and what is most important to you? (*)
  3. Don’t retire as a means to get away from a job or boss you hate – if retirement feels right to you, be sure you have a sense of purpose and a plan for your retirement
  4. Create a clear vision of how you’ll spend your time in the years ahead – you could be looking at 30 to 40 years or more and that’s a long time
  5. Take advantage of all the possibilities that retirement offers – learn a new skill, travel to new places (locally or further afield if your budget allows), join a special interest group that appeals to you or start your own, make new friends, volunteer for a cause you’re passionate about – fill your days with enjoyable and uplifting activities.
  6. Consider your changing needs as you age and make sure your plan accommodates for this. You may be very active in the early retirement years, less active in the next 10-15 years and in time, you may simply wish to stay in your own home and find that you need outside support to be able to do this.
  7. Find a form of exercise that you enjoy and that your body can sustain and build it into your schedule – keeping active both physically and mentally is a key component of a happy retirement
  8. Find a competent qualified financial planner and share your vision for your retirement. Ensure you have sufficient funds to sustain the lifestyle you desire before you decide to retire. If you still have some saving to do, consider re-inventing yourself for a new career that you’ll love (as I did when I became a life & career transitions coach after 30+ years in the corporate world) and you may find that the idea of fully retiring isn’t quite as appealing as it once was.

(*) Getting clear on your priorities is a critical first step when facing any life transition and I’ve developed an online workshop where you’ll coached by me through a proven process and in just 2 hours you’ll get crystal clear on your priorities for this phase of your life. It’s the What’s Important to Me NOW? online workshop and it’s available for only Cdn. $97 from my website at www.suemaitland.com/store – access it and get clear on your priorities TODAY.

STRESSED About Your Next Birthday?

Stressed about your birthdayWhy do some birthdays cause us so much angst? As we reach a milestone 40, 50, or 60+ we fear we’re getting older and maybe our best years have come and gone. NOTHING could be further from the truth. I believe that at any age you can choose to make the rest of your life the BEST of your life and I’ve built my life transitions coaching practice around that.

I’m now in my late 50’s and I can honestly say that if I could turn the clock back and go back to being 30, 40 or 50 again I wouldn’t because I LOVE the life I have now. I’ve finally figured out who I am and what my calling is and I’m living a life that’s joyful and extremely fulfilling. In short, I’m FLOURISHING and I love helping my clients connect with their best self and start to create their own BEST life.

In order to live your best life you need to pause and take time to really connect with who you are. Most of us are so busy with our day-to-day lives that we rarely stop to ask the question “What did I do today that made me feel really fulfilled?”. I invite you to ask yourself that question now. If you can’t think of anything ask yourself “What would have been something fulfilling that I might have liked to do today?”

If you can create a life where every day you wake up KNOWING that you will experience fulfillment from the people and things you choose to give your attention to, you’ll experience a new and deeper level of satisfaction with your life, one that you may not have experienced when you were younger.

The Living My BEST Life program has been designed to support my clients to connect with who they are when they’re being their best self so that they can become a VIP in their own life. Only when you commit to fully connecting with who you are and what makes you feel fulfilled can you begin to create your best life and that can take a long time if you do this on your own. My voyage of self-discovery began rather slowly in my 30’s (I was a busy person and believed I didn’t have time to devote to this). It wasn’t until my 50’s and my first coaching experience that I really started to take the time to get to really know myself. I now know that if I had chosen to engage a life coach to help me, I could have been flourishing much sooner.

If you have a birthday in your future that’s giving you angst, I invite you to pause and take time to celebrate all the wonderful things that happened in the past year and maybe also give thanks for the lessons learned from the things that didn’t quite go as planned. Then I invite you to consider setting aside time in the coming year for you to connect with who you are when you’re being your best self. You CAN find time if you make it a priority and you and the people in your life who care about you will also benefit. If you’re open to it, consider inviting a coach into your life to keep you on track and support you on your journey and know that at any age you CAN chose to

Make the rest of your life
the BEST of your life.
