Renew Your Commitment to Self-Care

Renew Your Commitment to Self-CareIf you’ve attended the Commit to Self-Care and Be Your BEST Self Seminar in the past, this workshop is for you. Connect with other women committed to making self-care a more important part of their lives. Take an evening to remind yourself why practicing self-care is important, celebrate your successes in integrating self-care into your life, take the valuable lessons from what didn’t quite work as you hoped and receive new ideas for what might work instead from your fellow workshop participants. Let’s learn from one another and support each other so we can all leave with a renewed commitment to practicing self-care.

Afterwards we’ll enjoy the delicious buffet supper at the Union Club.

Commit to Self-Care & Be Your BEST Self

spa shotIf you’re a busy professional woman, give yourself permission to take an evening off and discover why practicing self-care is so important for you AND everyone else in your life. Learn why so many women don’t make taking care of themselves a priority and the impact this has on themselves and others.

Experience a mini-self-care workshop where you’ll take time to appreciate some of the qualities that make you special and leave with a plan to integrate more self-care into your life.

There will be some sharing, though this is purely optional. The key focus of this seminar is to create a space for you to do some thinking about what practicing more self-care could look like for you.

At 6:15 pm we’ll all retire to a special table set aside just for us, at the Union Club for a delicious buffet supper that is included in the seminar price of only $37. Enjoying supper together will provide a wonderful opportunity to connect and get to know each other better.

PLEASE NOTE this special introductory pricing is only available for Monday night Self-Care Seminars in Feb 2016 – the price for Monday night seminars that include the Union Club buffet will increase to $67 in March to more accurately reflect the cost of staging the event and the value received from this experience.

All participants in the inaugural Commit to Self-Care and Be Your BEST Self seminar said they would recommend the seminar to others and here’s what one participant had to say afterwards:

“The Commit to Self-Care Seminar was inspirational and I really enjoyed it. I loved the setting at the Union Club and the meal with the other participants was delicious and the perfect way to wrap up the evening”                                  Janet Duncan, Professional Hairstylist, Ginger Group

Spaces are very limited for this event, so please contact Sue at 778-265-6880 or email her at suemaitland@shaw.ca to reserve your seat as soon as you know you’d like to attend. Consider inviting a friend to join you, or come on your own and expand your network.

This very special introductory pricing is only in effect until the end of February 2016 – don’t delay – invest in yourself today.

Sign-up for one of Sue’s workshops, a one-on-one Discovery Session or a Set for Success session after attending this seminar and receive a $37 credit towards this future investment in yourself. This offer may not be combined with any other offers. Payment is required in advance and we accept cash and all major credit cards.

Mid-Life Crisis – Myth or Reality?

Mid-Life Crisis (2)We’ve all heard the story about how in mid-life, an apparently happily married older man suddenly leaves his wife of 25+ years for a younger woman and trades in the family sedan for a new sports car. It’s a tongue in cheek definition of what a mid-life crisis can look like, but is there really such a thing as a mid-life crisis and is it only men who experience it?

I believe there is and I see many women experiencing this too. As a Life Transitions Coach I’ve built my practice around helping mid-lifers plan and execute successful personal and professional transitions and whether we label it a “mid-life crisis” or my preferred term “mid-life transition” many women and men in their 40’s and 50’s are driven to make one or more significant changes in their personal and professional lives.

The reality is that we wake up one day and realize that we’re at a point in our lives where we’re probably at least at least halfway done and we may not feel as fulfilled as we’d like. We decide that something needs to change and unfortunately, sometimes without a clear plan or serious consideration for the full implications, we do something to trigger a change either in our personal or professional lives or both. I’ll talk about the consequences of doing this without a clear plan of what you want for the future in my next blog.

Here are some signs that you might be facing a mid-life transition (crisis):

  • You’re dissatisfied with your job and start to resent going to work
  • You look at your partner and feel your relationship has become routine and stale
  • You notice that friends whose company you used to enjoy now seem shallow or boring
  • You’ve recently lost your job and can’t face going back into that same type of work again
  • You dream of owning your own business and being your own boss
  • You’re increasingly focused on signs of aging when you look in the mirror
  • Your life seems dull and uninspired – you begin to yearn for something new and exciting
  • You start to feel that your whole life has revolved around your children & their needs
  • You’ve begun to resent family commitments and don’t enjoy them the way you used to
  • You think more and more about retirement and wonder how soon you can make it happen
  • You really want to make a difference in this world but you’re not sure what that means
  • You’ve begun to be increasing curious about spiritual matters and different religions
  • You feel burdened by financial obligations and wonder if you’ll ever be able to retire
  • You have a sudden desire to get very physically fit
  • You’re putting increased focus on your clothing and overall physical appearance
  • You yearn to have the courage to try new things that you’ve never done before
  • You feel like your life is dictated by other people’s expectations of you and your wants and needs even aren’t being considered and you feel resentful
  • You increasingly find yourself asking the question “Is this all that there is?”
  • You get an overwhelming feeling that you want to leave everything behind and start a fresh new life without any baggage

Did any of these resonate for you?

If they did, you may be facing a mid-life transition and the very best thing you can do when you realize this is PAUSE and take time to evaluate exactly what your next move should be.

Engaging a qualified and experienced life coach at this point in your life may be one of the best investments you ever make since they can help you get clarity on what you really want and this will reduce your stress and allow you to make conscious and empowered choices about your future.

Here’s what my mid-life client Jacques had to say about working with me:

“In respect to the difference working with Sue made in my life, the investment was well worth it. If you’re ready to really improve your life, the investment is secondary.”

In my next blog I’ll share with you some of the costly and painful and consequences of NOT taking the time to plan your mid-life transition and how you can avoid these mistakes.

As an ICF certified Life and Career Transitions Coach I’ve helped many mid-lifers execute successful transitions in the personal and professional lives and I’ve made my own successful transition into a career that fulfills and sustains me. If you would like to explore inviting me to help you with your mid-life transition, please call today for your complimentary consultation at 778-265-6880 or go to my website at www.suemaitland.com and send me a message telling me more about what you’re going through and we’ll arrange a time to connect.

You don’t have to face this alone – take charge of your mid-life crisis and experience the sense of empowerment that comes from having a caring and experienced life transitions coach on your side to help you get clarity on what you really want and then support you as you plan and execute a successful and fulfilling transition.

Do You Live An Authentic Life?

Do you live an authentic lifeHave you ever wondered what living an authentic life means? Read on if you’re curious and you’ll find some questions that might help you get clarity on whether or not you are.

The Oxford dictionary definition of authentic is “of undisputed origin and not a copy; genuine”.

For me, living an authentic life means knowing who you are at your core and showing up in life honoring who that person really is. It means living a life where you are being your BEST self. When you live an authentic life you enjoy a feeling of alignment in your personal and professional life, experience more happiness and spend less time second guessing your choices.

Are you living an authentic life? Answer these questions and find out.

Question 1: Have you ever spent any time really getting to know yourself?

If you’ve never taken time to do this and you wish to live an authentic life, it may be time to start. If you don’t know yourself really well, you’re at risk of living your life trying to be what others want you to be and reacting to external stimulus without really understanding why. In short you’re not in control of your own life.

Question 2: Do you understand your core values?

We each have our own set of values which influence our behavior. If we’re not conscious of our own values, we risk making choices that put us in stressful situations where what we’re being asked to do doesn’t align with who we really are inside. Working in an environment where your values are not aligned with those of the company or the boss that you work for is one of the most stressful situations we can experience in life. I know, because I’ve been there and I knew that I had to leave for my own well-being and for the sake of my co-workers who had to listen to my frequent expressions of frustration.

Question 3: Do you know what fulfills you?

We enjoy a sense of self-fulfillment when we are fully developing and utilizing our talents doing something we believe in and which we feel is important. Having a clear purpose and are doing things to support that is important to our happiness and sense of well-being.

Question 4: What can I do to live a more authentic life?

I invite you to ask yourself this question. There are many ways to begin this process and based on your answers to questions 1 – 3, you’ll have some idea of what you need to work on. I use the term “work” because there is no quick fix or easy way to get these answers. You can read a self-help book or go online and take a survey and read the results, but if you don’t internalize what you’ve read, you haven’t really connected with your authentic self.

I believe the very best way to connect with your authentic self is to invest in yourself and work with a competent, caring ICF certified coach. You see, a coach is trained to help you find your answers and will hold you accountable for completing this work. The sense of empowerment you’ll enjoy from getting the answers to these questions and taking action to live an authentic life is priceless.
