Do you sometimes feel anxious when you think about your retirement? You know you need to have a plan for where you’ll live and how you’ll spend your time because without that it’s impossible to know when you have enough money set aside so that you can stop work without worrying. Would you like to kick start your retirement planning in a fun one day workshop? This small group workshop involves some group activities and also provides for you to capture your own personal thoughts and ideas without sharing with the other members of the group. You’ll connect with your own personal vision of retirement, including where you’ll live and how you’ll spend your time. Take your lunch break to stretch your legs and assimilate our morning work. The hotel has a beautiful restaurant and there are many al fresco options at nearby Fisherman’s Wharf. The early afternoon will be devoted to group brainstorming around a number of hypothetical scenarios for achieving a variety of retirement goals. You’ll then take time to capture possible ways that you can accommodate your desires in a way that could work for you and takes account of your personal circumstances. You’ll leave the session with a better understanding of what retirement could look like for you and some tools to help you continue the process of clarifying your vision and refining your retirement plan. Once you’ve completed this work, you’ll be able to talk with a competent financial advisor who can help you formalize the financial component of your plan and help you determine when might be the best time for you to retire.

Do You Live An Authentic Life?

Do you live an authentic lifeHave you ever wondered what living an authentic life means? Read on if you’re curious and you’ll find some questions that might help you get clarity on whether or not you are.

The Oxford dictionary definition of authentic is “of undisputed origin and not a copy; genuine”.

For me, living an authentic life means knowing who you are at your core and showing up in life honoring who that person really is. It means living a life where you are being your BEST self. When you live an authentic life you enjoy a feeling of alignment in your personal and professional life, experience more happiness and spend less time second guessing your choices.

Are you living an authentic life? Answer these questions and find out.

Question 1: Have you ever spent any time really getting to know yourself?

If you’ve never taken time to do this and you wish to live an authentic life, it may be time to start. If you don’t know yourself really well, you’re at risk of living your life trying to be what others want you to be and reacting to external stimulus without really understanding why. In short you’re not in control of your own life.

Question 2: Do you understand your core values?

We each have our own set of values which influence our behavior. If we’re not conscious of our own values, we risk making choices that put us in stressful situations where what we’re being asked to do doesn’t align with who we really are inside. Working in an environment where your values are not aligned with those of the company or the boss that you work for is one of the most stressful situations we can experience in life. I know, because I’ve been there and I knew that I had to leave for my own well-being and for the sake of my co-workers who had to listen to my frequent expressions of frustration.

Question 3: Do you know what fulfills you?

We enjoy a sense of self-fulfillment when we are fully developing and utilizing our talents doing something we believe in and which we feel is important. Having a clear purpose and are doing things to support that is important to our happiness and sense of well-being.

Question 4: What can I do to live a more authentic life?

I invite you to ask yourself this question. There are many ways to begin this process and based on your answers to questions 1 – 3, you’ll have some idea of what you need to work on. I use the term “work” because there is no quick fix or easy way to get these answers. You can read a self-help book or go online and take a survey and read the results, but if you don’t internalize what you’ve read, you haven’t really connected with your authentic self.

I believe the very best way to connect with your authentic self is to invest in yourself and work with a competent, caring ICF certified coach. You see, a coach is trained to help you find your answers and will hold you accountable for completing this work. The sense of empowerment you’ll enjoy from getting the answers to these questions and taking action to live an authentic life is priceless.

Make This Your Best Year Ever

2015 Your Best Year EverWant to set yourself up for an amazing year? Take a trip with me into the future and let’s look back on your achievements. Give yourself the gift of 30 minutes in a quiet place where you won’t be disturbed and let’s explore what an amazing year could look like for you.

In December I invited my clients to connect with me to reflect on their achievements over the past year. We looked back and uncovered personal and professional successes both big and small and took a moment to pause and celebrate them together. In all cases my clients were surprised and delighted with their accomplishments. You can discover how to walk yourself through this process in this article on my website:  http://suemaitland.com/category/articles/. Reading that article could be the perfect prelude to our trip into the future.

Now I want to share with you the second part of our year-end coaching session. Here are the steps I invite you to follow to create your plan for this year’s achievements:

  1. Write at the top of your notepad “My Achievements This Year”.
  2. Take a couple of nice deep cleansing breaths and get present to the moment
  3. Imagine you’ve stepped through a portal and been transported into the future – it’s now December and you’ve enjoyed an amazingly successful year
  4. As you look back over the entire year ask yourself “What are all the wonderful things that I achieved last year that I may wish to celebrate?” and from the vantage point of the end of the year, write down on your notepad each thing that comes to mind. Don’t hold back – remember it’s been an amazing year.
  5. Now take another couple of deep cleansing breaths and prepare to get really present and open to celebrating your successes this year.
  6. Read out loud each of your achievements and acknowledge and honour each one of them.
  7. Notice how you are now feeling about yourself and your past year. Enjoy that feeling of satisfaction and congratulate yourself on all of your achievements.
  8. Now step back from the future and think of the top 3 actions you could take that would help make this vision a reality and write them on your notepad. Set a date for when you will start doing each of these things.
  9. Consider one key thing that might occur that could impact your ability to achieve those goals and ask yourself “How can I overcome that challenge if it occurs?” Write your answer down.
  10. Notice how you were able to come up with an answer as to how to overcome your challenge and know that you have the answers to be able to overcome any challenges if you just take time to give it your attention and are open to all the possible solutions.

Congratulations – you just set yourself up for an amazing year.

If you would like to explore working with me to help you get clarity on the key achievements you’d like to set for yourself for the coming year and invite me to support you as you build a plan to make them happen, please call or email me for a complimentary initial consultation and you could begin to…

Make the rest of your life
the BEST of your life.
